About the facility

The Voxel Medical Diagnostic Centre in Warsaw is a facility offering a wide range of top-quality diagnostic imaging services. In addition to a full range of routine computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, the centre also carries out specialist organ scans

The areas of particular interest in which the centre specialises and has exceptional expertise are non-invasive cardiac and cardiovascular diagnostics, and modern oncological diagnostics.

We carry out tests covered by the National Health Fund (NFZ) as well as private tests.

Prostate fusion biopsy

IT IS THE MOST ACCURATE METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING PROSTATE CANCER

What is the purpose of a fusion biopsy?

Treatment for prostate cancer can only be initiated on the basis of the results of a microscopic histopathological examination. A fusion biopsy is the most reliable method for confirming or ruling out prostate cancer.

How does a fusion biopsy differ from a conventional prostate biopsy?

The conventional prostate biopsy has many limitations. Around 70 per cent of prostate cancer lesions are not visible on an ultrasound scan.

For this reason, a conventional prostate biopsy is, in most cases, a ‘blind’ search for areas of malignant growth. It is estimated that up to 47 per cent of cancerous lesions are missed in this way.

The method used to overcome this limitation is prostate fusion biopsy. It involves first identifying areas suspected of harbouring cancer using magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI). This technique, which enables magnetic resonance images to be superimposed onto ultrasound images in real time (image fusion), allows for the precise identification of biopsy sites.

Do we carry out tests on children?

Computed Tomography (CT) – yes – from the age of 14,
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) – yes – from the age of 14.

Notes:
For the scan to be carried out, the child must be able to lie still and remain motionless for the entire duration of the procedure. The scan is performed without general anaesthesia – this type of anaesthesia may only be administered by an anaesthesia team. The decision to administer a contrast agent is made by the radiologist on a case-by-case basis.
