About the facility
In our PET/CT scan suite, we carry out scans using the GE Omni Legend scanner – one of the most advanced diagnostic systems available on the market. The digital imaging technology it employs produces exceptionally precise images, which improves the detection of even very small tumour lesions and helps doctors to make an accurate diagnosis and plan the best possible treatment.
The system’s high sensitivity enables the scan to be carried out in a much shorter time than with older-generation scanners, which translates into greater patient comfort
and reduces the need to remain still for long periods. At the same time, it is possible to use a lower dose of radiopharmaceutical whilst maintaining the highest image quality, making the scan not only more comfortable but also safer.
GE’s state-of-the-art Omni Legend technology combines diagnostic precision with patient care, ensuring a fast, accurate and safe examination that meets the highest contemporary standards in nuclear medicine.

Highly specialised examinations
In recent years, PET-CT scanning has become a key diagnostic method used primarily in oncology. A major advantage of this method is that the PET-CT scanner allows a full-body scan to be carried out in a matter of minutes, yielding the most accurate results possible. The doctor conducting the scan is able to identify the location and extent of cancerous lesions, the presence of distant metastases, any recurrence of the disease, and the effectiveness of treatment to date.
Indications for PET-CT scanning include: non-small cell lung cancer, epithelial tumours of the head and neck, tumours of the digestive system, breast and reproductive organs, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, sarcoma, melanoma, thyroid tumours, malignant brain tumours, thyroid cancer, suspected bone metastases, planning for radical radiotherapy, metastases of unknown primary origin, and cancers of the kidney and prostate.
The most commonly used radiopharmaceutical is the 18F glucose analogue – FDG (fluorodeoxyglucose). It is intended for use in most oncological indications. In addition, the laboratory has 18F-choline, which is used in the diagnosis of patients with prostate cancer and clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
Do we carry out tests on children?
PET-CT – yes – from 0 to 18 years of age.
Notes:
For the scan to be carried out, the child must be able to lie still and remain motionless for the entire duration of the procedure. The scan is performed without general anaesthesia – this type of anaesthesia may only be administered by an anaesthesia team. The decision to administer a contrast agent is made by the radiologist on a case-by-case basis.
