About the facility

The state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging unit is located at the Divine Mercy District Hospital
in Limanowa, in the side wing of the hospital, below the Pulmonology Ward.

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Unit is equipped with a modern, latest-generation, high-field Signa Voyager MRI system from General Electric, with a magnetic field strength of 1.5T, which utilises new imaging technology and combines advances in the field of magnetic resonance imaging with cutting-edge engineering. This new scanner offers a whole new level of patient comfort thanks to automatic coil selection and innovative applications designed to minimise scan times and improve image quality.

1. In addition to standard examinations in the fields of neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology, gastroenterology and urology, we perform targeted sequences (in accordance with European guidelines) for:

  • pituitary gland,
  • angles m/m,
  • eye sockets,
  • Non-contrast MR scan of the neck and head,
  • prostate gland (according to PI-RADS 2.1),
  • the perianal region,
  • nerve plexuses
  • MR urography

2. We carry out tests specifically for rheumatic diseases (comparative hand examinations).

3. We carry out the following examinations: MRI, mammography (with and without contrast enhancement):

  • A breast MRI scan usually takes about 40 minutes
  • The patient is lying on her stomach in a special tube
  • We examine women who are menstruating during the second week of their cycle, i.e. between days 7 and 14
  • Post-menopausal women can have the test at any time
  • If you are undergoing hormone replacement therapy, you should stop HRT four weeks before the test
  • Intrauterine devices do not constitute a contraindication for the examination
  • Following surgery or a biopsy, this test can only be carried out after a period of 6 months

Do we carry out tests on children?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) – yes – from the age of 4.

Notes:
For the scan to be carried out, the child must be able to lie still and remain motionless for the entire duration of the procedure. The scan is performed without general anaesthesia – this type of anaesthesia may only be administered by an anaesthesia team. The decision to administer a contrast agent is made by the radiologist on a case-by-case basis.
